Rocky coastline at De Kelders South Africa

Best outdoor activities on the Cape Whale Coast

Memories are made of this.....

Gansbaai & Pearly Beach Horse Trails invite you on a memorable horseback adventure. Only two scenic hours from Cape Town, our trails will take you through dune forest and fynbos, across the pristine white sandy beaches of one of the most tranquil stretches of the Cape Whale Coastline.
Enjoy individual and knowledgeable attention from your personal trail guide, Sarah Coronaios, who will share with you her passion for horses and the Overberg. Southern Right Whales are plentiful in season and the lure of a dip in the cool blue Atlantic beckons on hot trail-riding days.
Keep & share your memories: when possible, our trails include a full photo/video package (drone & stills).

Join us for an evening of stargazing

Experience Southern Africa’s stellar BIG FIVE at the eyepiece of a telescope, with binoculars and with the naked eye.
Kos Coronaios, the Astronomical Society of Southern Africa’s Observing Director and Outreach Officer, will show you amongst the many delights of our vast Universe, some of the constellations, stars and deep-sky objects only visible south of the equator, as well as some of the better known gems that are so much brighter in our beautiful dark, unpolluted skies. You will learn about the exciting life cycles of stars and ancient astronomy discoveries that have helped us to better understand our universe.
Comparing western mythology with Southern African star lore, Kos will point out some of the patterns in the evening sky that make up the stories our ancient ancestors told around the campfire.
The evening’s Night Sky Safari is around an hour long and is suitable for all ages.

I believe that if the licensed operator (7 in Gansbaai) acts responsibly towards both animal and tourist, the conservation benefits for this species outweighs many unproven controversy’s surrounding the activity. I would only recommend certain responsible conservation proven companies and crew.
